The school year is finally coming to an end, and now one has only to focus on keeping themselves occupied this summer. What better time than to watch the newest movies headed for theaters? This summer’s lineup is sure to have at least one movie to grab your attention. Here are the biggest movies coming to theaters this summer.
First up is the culmination of a decade of movies. Marvel Studio’s grand event Avengers: Infinity War. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as it has been called by fans has been going strong since the 2008 release of Iron Man. Since then this series has amassed a collection of 18 movies with Infinity War being the 19th. The movie will be a loose adaptation of the 1992 Marvel comic of the same name. It will follow the MCU’s large cast of heroes taking on the galactic villain Thanos, who wants to claim the powerful Infinity Gauntlet. This titan of a movie will be released on May 4, 2018
Next up is the next entry in the Star Wars series. While not the highly-anticipated ninth episode of the series, Solo: A Star Wars Story hopes to take a break from Disney’s Sequel Trilogy to take a look back into the past of one of the most beloved characters in the franchise. Taking place between episodes three and four of the main saga, “Solo” hopes to accomplish the same mission as 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. To take a step back and tell an untold story in the Star Wars universe. Taking place before 1977’s Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope it will tell the story of a young Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian. Needless to say, any Star Wars movie promises a good time, and this one will hit theaters May 25.
Now for a blast from the past, as 2004’s The Incredibles finally gets a sequel. The appropriately named The Incredibles II takes place shortly after the first film. The family must now take on the new villain The Underminer while campaigning for the return of superheroes and discovering the family baby, Jack-Jack’s new powers. It’s hard to believe that the first movie came out 14 years ago, but fans of this movie finally get the sequel they’ve desired. The Incredibles return to the big screen will begin on June 15.
These movies aren’t even the tip of the iceberg, more movies to watch out for are Deadpool 2 on May 18, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom on June 22, Oceans 8 on June 8, and much more. It’s not hard to find at least one release that catches your eye. This summer is looking very promising for moviegoers.
