Olympic figure skating

The 23rd Winter Olympics are taking place in Pyeongchang, South Korea.  This is a time where the countries of the world come together to compete and show off their best athletes.  My personal favorite of these sports is figure skating.

In the 2018 Winter Olympics, 32 countries will be competing in the figure skating event.  A total of 153 athletes will be taking part in the four different events; singles, pairs, ice dancing, and a team event.  The U.S. is represented by Bradie Tennel, Mirai Nagasu, Karen Chen, Nathan Chen for the singles. The men are represented by Nathan Chen, Adam Rippon, and Vincent Zhou.  For the pairs;  Alexa Scimeca- Knierim and Chris Knerim, Madison Chock and Evan Bates, Madison Hubbel and Zachary Donohue, Maia Shibutani and Alex Shibutani represent the United States.

Marai Nagasu earned a silver medal in her singles event and Adam Rippon earned bronze. The pair of Alexa Scimeca- Knierim and Chris Knerim, who placed 14th, were the only pair from the U.S to qualify for the finals.  In the team event, the United States took a bronze medal.

Figure skating is a sport of grace, strength, and power that has grabbed the attention of people from all over the world.  The athletes train and compete for the majority of their lives leading up to Olympics and the world gets to watch in amazement as they show where their hard work has gotten them. The Olympics are a time for the world to join together for one of the most viewed events in the world. Billions of people are tuning in to watch and support their country.  People from every country come together to celebrate and watch the world unite to compete.
