Boys track dominates at Districts

The Kearney High boys’ track team won the district track meet on May 14 at Kearney with 178 points. The top four places in field events and top three places in running events were state qualifiers.

Seniors Tyler Gillen and Jake Kingsley both qualified for state in the 100-meter dash. Gillen placed first with a time of 10.88 and Kingsley placed third with a time of 10.99. Gillen also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.90 while junior Dylan Nicol placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.90.

Freshman Trey Grube placed fourth in the 400-meter dash and qualified for state with a time of 51.99. Senior Connor Krier placed second in the 800-meter dash with a time of 1:59.64.

Senior Trysten Compton and sophomore Miguel Gomez both qualified for state in the 1600 meter run. Compton placed second with a time of 4:37.39 and Gomez placed third with a time of 4:40.75. Gomez placed first in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:07.71. Senior Bailey Block placed third with a time of 10:18.52.

In the 110 meter high hurdles junior Jacob White and junior Brock Sterling placed first and second. White with a time of 14.75 and Sterling with a time of 15.58. White also placed second in 300-meter hurdles with a time of 40.77 and senior Matt Koester placed third with a time with 40.85.

Kearney placed first in the 4×100 meter relay with a record-breaking time of 41.94. They also placed sixth on the all-time top 10 charts in the state. In the 4×400 meter relay Kearney placed third with a time of 3:27.39. Also in the 4×800 meter relay Kearney placed second with a time of 8:19.50.

In the long jump Gillen placed second with a jump of twenty-two feet five inches. Senior Eric Elder placed second in the high jump with a height of six feet. Junior Hudson Snider placed fourth in pole vault with a height of thirteen feet eight inches

Junior Jacob Long placed second in shot put with a throw of 55’ 5 ¾”. Also, junior Brian Arp placed third with a throw of 54’10 1/4”. Junior Eli Keller placed fifth and qualified for state with a throw of 52’11”. In discus, Long placed first with a throw of 173’7”.
